Toren Grote Kerk Dordrecht
In de 14e eeuw startte men met de bouw van de toren en deze bouw duurde eeuwenlang. Rond 1450, was het werk gevorderd tot de omloop. Maar bij de grote stadsbrand in 1457 werden de kerk en toren zwaar beschadigd. Bij de herbouw besloot men de bouwplannen te herzien. De toren zou een achtkantige bekroning van natuursteen krijgen in een puntvorm en 108 meter hoog worden. De toren begon in die tijd al te verzakken en over te hellen. Een bijna 50 meter hoge torenspits zou desastreus kunnen zijn, daar werd dan ook van afgezien. In 1626 wwerden de vier kolossale wijzerborden aangebracht. De uiteindelijke hoogte van de toren werd daardoor 65 meter. (Vanaf onderkant fundering 72 m). Bij de restauratie van 1953 tot 1973 is de verdere verzakking van de toren tot stilstaan gebracht en zijn de originele traceringen weer aangebracht. De toren staat nu 2,25 meter uit het lood en weegt 12 miljoen kilo. De toren heeft 275 traptreden. Bij helder weer kun je de Euromast, Utrechtse Dom, en de toren van Breda zien. Dankzij Wilma: Deze kerk bevat het grootste carillon van Europa, met 67 klokken. Rijksmonument 13417 Construction of the tower started in the 14th century and took centuries. By 1450, work had progressed to circulation. But the church and tower were severely damaged during the great city fire in 1457. During the rebuilding it was decided to revise the building plans. The tower would have an octagonal crown of natural stone in a pointed shape and would be 108 meters high. At that time, the tower had already begun to sag and lean. An almost 50 meter high spire could be disastrous, so that was decided against. The four colossal dials were installed in 1626. The final height of the tower was therefore 65 meters. (From bottom of foundation 72 m). During the restoration from 1953 to 1973, further subsidence of the tower was halted and the original traceries were reapplied. The tower is now 2.25 meters out of plumb and weighs 12 million kilos. The tower has 275 steps.

De Grote of Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk te Dordrecht, in de Nederlandse provincie Zuid-Holland, is de grootste kerk van deze stad. Het is een kruisbasiliek stijl met een onvoltooide toren. Het oudste deel van de tegenwoordige kerk is het Mariakoor, een kapel ten noorden van het hoogkoor die vanaf 1285 werd opgetrokken. Misschien was de verheffing tot kapittelkerk in 1367 aanleiding tot grootscheepse nieuwbouw. De kerk werd in 1457 ernstig beschadigd door een grote stadsbrand, maar vier jaar later was de schade hersteld. Rond 1470 had de kerk haar huidige vorm. De Vlaamse bouwmeester Everaert Spoorwater heeft een belangrijk aandeel gehad in de bouw. De toren, ontworpen door Antoon I Keldermans, werd gebouwd vanaf circa 1504 maar zij is nooit geheel voltooid. Het interieur van de kerk staat vooral bekend om zijn koorbanken in vroege renaissancestijl, gemaakt van 1538 tot 1541. Op de panelen boven de zittingen en op de misericordes zijn zeer minutieus Bijbelse en wereldlijke voorstellingen uitgesneden. Het weelderige koorhek van marmer en koper dateert uit 1744, de al even overdadige kansel uit 1756. Verder bevinden zich in de kerk talrijke gebeeldhouwde grafzerken
