Mrs Annabel Dijkema, curator of the Catharijneconvent Museum, will highlight Northern Realism, the art movement to which Helmantel is also attached.

City organist Cor Ardesch has put together a concert programme during ‘Ode to the Synod’. On every first Saturday of the month, starting in December 2018, a concert takes place with different themes related to the Synod.
The concerts will take place in the Grote Kerk, an important meeting place during the Synod.
The entrance fee for these concerts is 8 euro. Friends of the Grote Kerk receive a 50% discount on presentation of their membership card.

For the exhibition Helmantel produced a number of new works. He was inspired by the (time of the) Synod of Dordrecht. Some details of the new works can be seen in the accompanying video.
The 400st anniversary of Synod in 2018 and 2019 is a welcome opportunity to revisit its historical significance as well as its actual standing, both in an academic, multidisciplinary and transconfessional way. A consortium of scholars will organise an international conference on 14-16 November 2018, to be held, of course, in the city of Dordrecht and, as in 1618-1619, generously hosted by the local government as part of a large programme of public activities in commemoration of the European summit of Calvinism four centuries ago. The conference includes a lot of papers about several topics regarding the overall theme, based on original research of sources, fresh interpretations of debates, or new insights on the continuing reception of ‘Dort’ and its impact on recent debates.
In preparation for the special winter season, the church is closed for two weeks, from 1 November to 13 November. The church will open its doors again from 14 November.
