Former city carillonneur van Dordrecht, Jaap van der Ende, passed away on September 13th at the age of 90.
Carillonneur in city and country
Jaap van der Ende took lessons at the Dutch Carillon School. From 1953 on he played weekly on Saturday afternoon on the carillon of his hometown Schoonhoven. In 1958 he was appointed city carillonneur of Schoonhoven. In 1966 he was appointed city carillonneur of Dordrecht.
Besides city carillonneur van Schoonhoven and Dordrecht, Van der Ende was also city carillonneur van Woerden, Oudewater and Gouda. He also regularly played carillons in Rijnsburg, Voorschoten, Bergambacht, Zoetermeer and in Amsterdam (Royal Palace Amsterdam).
Cors Monster
Until his retirement in 1993 Van der Ende remained a city carilloneur in Dordrecht. The well-known Dordrecht composer Kors Monster was inspired by Van der Ende to compose a number of works for carillon.
